The Children Knuckles, Nelson and Ophelia, are good kids. Learning the lessons of one’s own childhood helps much. But there is one failing experienced by Knuckles that is being repeated by his nearly perfect offspring.
The Great Homework Scramble of Sunday Night.
Knuckles did it. Now his kids do it. Even if they do their homework Friday night, Saturday or Sunday afternoon there is some forgotten project that rears its ugly mug right about 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
Is this some kind of syndrome? The kids are bright students who have no trouble during the week doing homework. But there’s always something left over to do Sunday night.
Last night was spent brainstorming endings for short story Nelson wrote about urban gangs.
SON: Dad, how should I end this story?
DAD: How about (riveting, short wrap-up)
SON: Naw, I don’t like it. How about (long, confused, dopey ending.)
DAD: Sounds great, son.
Meanwhile, Ophelia was madly writing homemade Valentine cards. We ended up doing a production line on the cards just so that she could get to bed before 9:30.
Yeesh.
