Attended a major book show in Toronto, Canada this weekend. Some observations...
It seemed every third publisher was releasing a book about Fidel Castro and his sociopathic hitman, Che (short for Cheryl). Knuckles noticed that the pictures used on the book covers were all of Fidel and Cheryl as very young men. None of the Maximum Generalissimo cigar-chomping bearded tyrant and his maniac poster child.
The Leftist publishers who were publishing paranoid pamphlets on recycled ratshit only 20 years ago are now releasing beautifully-designed material. Of course you run across a few fringe clods, but they only enhance the respectability of the mainstream lefties.
An Islamic publisher had a prominent location next to three Canadian government booths. Knuckles has no problem with the Religion of Pieces™ selling their shit. But it was the overall tone of the Islamic publisher that caught Knuckles' attention. A banner behind a table piled high with Muslim children's books featured a large teddy bear surrounded by balloons and colorful crayons. Copy on this happy, jolly banner read: Stories of the Prophet from the Qu'ran. An 8.5" x 11" sign on the table read: Jesus. The Affirmer of Islam.
Book buyers trend towards unattractiveness. Book sellers, not.
Coming to a school library near you:
"Mom and Mum are Getting Married! isbn 1-896764-84-3
"Canadians are not Americans" isbn 1-896764-73-8
"My Head Would Be Further Up My Ass If It Weren't For My Darn Shoulders" isbn pending
Noticed a colorful, oversized brochure. But they were all face down. Picking one up, Knuckles discovered a curvacious Coop broad on the cover. Title of book: "Art of Modern Rock".
"You could fold it over," said a voice behind me. It was one of the publisher's reps. She was worried that the über-PC librarians and bookbuyers milling around the booth would be offended. Knuckles wasn't concerned about the lard-ass librarians. Knuckles was smitten. The rep was very pretty. She was a book seller. Same publisher publishes "Stick it to Bush". Sigh.
