Ayn Rand was a major influence in Knuckle's intellectual development.
That's why it's so fucking painful to read ideological self-destructive bullshit like this.
Reading Ayn Rand's fiction and nonfiction is like turning on the lights in a big dark house. Problem is, she never bothered to screw in the lightbulb in the cellar because that's where she was screwing her favorite disciple.
As a result, her beliefs about state-sanctioned abortion and state-protected suicide are WRONG WRONG WRONG.
But as Rand often said, humans aren't perfect. Only perfectable.

I cannot understand how people I agree with on virtually every issue can believe abortion is a moral choice. To suggest a fetus/baby is not a person until the cord is cut is ludicrous and clearly motivated by interests other than truth. I can see how it gets to be a little grey after that. I believe abortion is wrong. Worse, however, is giving a state any authority in the matter. In the big scheme of things, no one is apt to look out for their offspring better than parents. Unfortunately, some parents will make the wrong choices. Freedom has costs. Interference with freedom has much greater costs. I believe peer pressure would prevent almost all abortions in a free and necessarily prosperous society.
I can't resist mentioning that I am outraged that my government steals from me to provide abortions. I am, of course, outraged that my government steals from me period.
What's wrong in believing in assisted suicide? It seems entitrely reasonable to me that it should be allowed - if you make it clear that you want to die, the person doing that should not be a criminal.
As for abortion, I believe that it's not murder up to a certain point, but the Objectivist line about "until the cord's cut, feel free to kill the little bugger" is absurd. I dunno, I have one hell of a post planned out for that topic one of these days, the trick is getting around to writing it.
